Natural Healing: A Journey to the Mayan World of Atitlan
Richard Morgan, resident of Panajachel since the '90's, owner of "Posada Los Encuentros" and auther of various books related to Lake Atitlan, did it again! His latest book: "Natural Healing: A Journey to the Mayan World of Atitlan" is about energy, natural medicine and the power of the mind/spirit to regulate the human body. This work is highly interesting from different points of view especially when you know Richard personally. He explains how life's journey led him to live at Lake Atitlan.
Richard describes various medicinal plants that are available around Lake Atitlan and in his herb garden at Los Encuentros and writes in detail about properties and uses of 14 herbs, the active parts, dosages and preparations (like making a tincture, infusions/decoctions, poultice/cataplasm's to preparing and applying facial masks/baths).
Walking through the garden, he conversationally explains usage and the active parts of the plants which we are passing by. I ask him if there is anything at the moment that he uses on a daily base. "Aloe and Chamomile", he says. "Aloe I use in the morning, peel the skin of, mix it up with a little bit of water and drink that before breakfast. Mostly as a preventative for stomach lining inflammation. My body tends to produce too much hydrochloric acid. I also drink Chamomile tea (Manzanilla) at night to get ready to sleep."Other books from the same Author as well as Natural Healing are available at different stores in Panajachel. Also available on Amazon are "The Lake Atitlan Reference Guide
